Love

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” Rumi

One of the biggest misconceptions I think I had going into marriage was that live would be the way it was when Patrick & I were dating for …. Well forever. We meet Fall of 2014 and in a whirlwind romance were engaged by Valentines Day that year. We fit like two awkward, poorly communicating puzzle pieces. Over the years we went through health concerns, job stress, money and housing obstacles, and infertility. After Eila was born I began going to therapy as a way to survive. My PPD and PPA was …. Horrible.

Since 2020 Patrick and my relationship has changed tremendously. Our communication style is different, more open, and when we talk about the future we both prioritize our little family above all else. Turns out some of those things that we had carried with us through life and into our relationship was making it harder for us to actually hear and understand what the other person needed. This year, we have so much to celebrate. A strong, healthy marriage and baby on the way are just the tip of the iceberg. One of the biggest reasons I’m excited for Valentine’s Day this year, though, is Eila. My little bestie is the absolute light of my life and I can’t wait to see her little face when she get a surprise gift on the 14th.

Although I’m excited for Valentine’s Day this year, I get that not everyone is super excited for the very commercialized holiday. Because of this, we’ve put together our top 5 picks for Valentine’s Day gifts that don’t fit the stereotypical mold.
